Patricia Whitty

Been thinking of my friend and Mentor, Patricia Whitty. Look her up on line...a fabulous photo realist in museum collections and public works mostly in the New Orleans area but also all over the US. She died Tuesday the 15th of July of brain cancer. She gave her fame, prestige and teaching talent to Taylor Gallery, my gallery in Slidell, and 'classed' us up enough to be recognized by the New Orleans critics as a respected gallery in a little podunk town. Amazing in that area. She was such a lovely generous and supurbly talented artist and taught me so much. She will be greatly missed.

I have been getting ready to go to my nephew's wedding this weekend so tidying up stuff before travel. I have been finishing up a nude portrait...male, full front so won't be showing that as it goes against my site meter contract. I worked it on bristol plate with watercolor and gouche. I like the way it turned out. Might post it on my website if I ever get that done. Such a techno-geek I am not! I wish though.

Bringing some other painting starts up to work to see if anything is worth going ahead with. Will post some photos if anything looks promising. Cheers, Tonya

I have been experiencing the bane of all artists...letting yourself be pulled away from what you would normally be doing by the needs of others. My Brother- in -law once told me I was not selfish enough to be an artist. He's a writer. He may be right. He may be crazy....I prefer the latter.

Qaing Huang workshop

Took a fun workshop Fridy and Saturday with Painter Qaing Huang (pronounced Chong Wong).
It was arranged by Marty Hatcher at her ARLC (Artist retreat and learning center) located outside of Magnolia on her beautiful property. What a lovely setting to take a workshop!
Qaing Huang is a great teacher and has a very organized presentation that is straight forward and concise. He does wonderful small oil paintings of still Life.
