You know you're not in Kansas anymore when...

During the worst part of the demonstrations here in Bahrain, the company sent all the women and children to Dubai to wait until things settled down a bit.  So while staying in the very nice Kempinski hotel in the Mall of the Emirates (the mall that has the indoor ski slope!)  I had lots of time to shop and site see.
I was so thrilled when I wandered into a bookstore in the mall and found some art magazines!  I haven't had my mits on an American Artist magazine for months and when I got back to my room and eagerly started reading my treasured find, this is what I found!

Definately a "Toto, we're not in Kansas anymore" moment!

Thanks for this peak 'behind the curtain'. It's crazy how things that seem so innocuous to me can be so provocative to other cultures. Too bad their censor boxes look more like someone has gone through and defaced the magazine. Interesting...

Be safe!

Hey Don, (Big Hug) nice to see you! Yes it is weird because it is obviously hand done with a big marker that doesn't bleed through the paper but is so black that you cannot see the image through when held up to the light. It is strange too because they had a sign in the mall that said "please wear respectful clothing. For example shoulders and knees should be coverd". And yet they had lingerie mannequins in the shop windows dressed in skimpy undergarments and skimpy clothing displayed in lots of other shops. Go figure.

Hi Jan, Love and miss you too! You are probably the only one who will listen to the stories! LOL! Love the new stuff on your blog!

Amazing! In England when I lived there with Ron, they had people on the TV nakked after 11 PM (sometimes with some shows. It wasnt a biggie to them. And the "Sun" newspaper had a partial nude a day. Top nakked and a skimpy bottom..full page. Ha thats Britain! Hope your fine and doing well..when you coming Home?
xx
