2nd pull from hand press

I didn't really like this one at first but after hanging on my studio wall for a few days it has kind of grown on me.  Let me know what you think.
I actually got a reversal of my small bird image by stamping the inked image onto some mylar and then transferring that to the plate.  It worked great and made it a lot easier than carving another stamp. I used the same method to get the words to print in the right direction.
I also found a simple way to transfer my photo image to the stamp for carving.  I placed a piece of the mylar over the photo and traced it in with a marker.  I then laid the wet side down onto the carving material surface and rubbed it with my fingers to transfer the image.  So much easier than trying to trace it off!

What's not to like?? Your work has "everything" - good design, rhythm, interest ....
Sometimes we're our own worst critic.

This one is lovely too. A little more vibrant than the last one.
Thanks for the link you gave me in the previous post. :)

Thanks so much Lynne!

Manon your a sweetie, thank you!

Thanks for stopping by Kathy, and the great encouraging comment! I agree we are our worst critiques, that's why blogs are nice, to get another perspective. Amazing new series you're working on!

Suzanne, wow, thanks! I do enjoy your blog as well. Love that beautiful little boy you painted recently!

Hi Rosalie, thanks, I thought it might be too vibrant at first but I think maybe the ink soaks in over time and mellows and blends a little more or something. Glad the link was helpful.

Tonya, I don't know how this one got by me, but I'm just now seeing it. I love it! The colors, the composition, the textures, the birds - just everything. I like your tips on getting the words and images transfered. Keep 'em coming...

Its like the cover art for a Radiohead album!

it hs all the time with me . i need to let the work live on the wall for a while and 'talk" for me be able to see it better .
i remember that Rauschenberg said that he likes when the works give a doubt about its quality after finished .

this is a fantastic work anyway .

I like the the banding and layers weaving throughout this piece. I think the letters add another layer that resolves it all. Very interesting.

Hey Mr. G. Thanks! I wish Radiohead would buy it for an album cover. Wouldn't that be great?

Hi Caio, Thanks! And yes, I think it helps to hang it on the wall and wait. And hey, if it's good enough for Rauschenberg...

Thank you Eva, nice comment. Thanks for visiting my blog.

Welcome, jbkrost, and thanks! Be careful what you wish for, it's very addictive! The only reason I haven't gotten more done lately is that I am working on Seven new portraits for the Mitchell Pavilion Patron's Courtyard Mural as well as a list of other projects, so I'm just swamped. But otherwise I'd probably be printing!

I love this piece, it has a collagey feel and the double imaging give it an ethereal feel and it has great texture. Often I find that the things I want to fling out the window, with a little more work become some of my favourites. For me there is this intuitive sense of hmm, that's not quite right or not quite done.

Thanks for the stamping tip. I love image transfer and always like to explore new and (simple) ways of doing this.

Tonya, I like these a lot. I love how you integrate the layers and the use of the bird.

looks like you have found good uses for mylar- these are wonderful- nicely textured too.

I understand about the work "growing" on you. Strange, how some times, just like with people--we don't necessarily like them right off, but later we do. Art and people are complex.
I liked this "right off"

The layering is fascinating and not something I have really tried myself. There's a quality to these prints, not so much dreamlike as referring to memory..
