Kinstler calls himself a value painter. Each day we painted from a model and sometime in the morning Mr. Kinstler would come around and crituque our work before lunch. Then back to painting in the afternoon. It was such a great experience to paint all day surrounded with other talented artists and to see how everyone interpreted the model in their own way.
Photos of my paintings and entries on my working processes, progressions and sometimes the lack thereof.

Kinstler Workshop and Richeson 75 Portrait/Figures show
first photo is me with Kinstler at the catalog signing at the opening of the show. That's my purse sticking out under my shawl. Next is me with my portrait that got in The Richeson 75 show. Upper right by my head.

This is the first night at the opening of the show that coincided with the beginning of the workshop. That is one of the Richesons in the Blue shirt. More later, I was there all week. cheers, Tonya
trying to catch up and upload photos again!
Remember this painting? I finally finished it in April according to the date on my photo! I spent some time modifying the values and center of interest after discussing John Salminen's approach to abstract watercolors with my friend and fellow artist Diane St. Germaine
I am still working on the Pavillion portraits but the weather has not cooperated very much this year. The wall is in full weather and sun so when it is wet or too hot or too windy, I can't paint. I am now also in the process of trying to preserve the previous artist's work, as it is deteriorating very quickly. I am experimenting with painting over each fading portrait with a coat of outdoor acrylic varnish, in hopes of just stopping them where they are until I can get to each one and restore the colors.
I have more finished paintings but can't locate the photos on the computer at the moment. More later! Cheers, Tonya

What I've been up to this week

Well, this is what I have been up to for the past week! I have a couple of places that might want to carry my jewelry, so I have been trying to get some made!
I am stressed though, as I am behind on the Pavillion and I have a comission painting that needs finishing. I also still haven't finished my pumpkin patch watercolor either!
Hope you are having a great week. Cheers, Tonya

Editing painting photos

Well, I spent most of yesterday uploading pictures and filling out online forms to enter The Woodlands Waterway Show. I entered in Oil and Watercolor. These are just a couple of examples of what I entered in each catagory that I entered. Thanks to my friends Jan and Sharon for helping me get the photos taken and edited in photoshop! Jan is becoming quite the photoshop wizard! Wish me luck! Cheers, Tonya

Tuesday I painted with The Woodlands Art league at a "pumpkin patch
" that the Methodist church had set up in their courtyard. It was quite inspiring. Here is what I started and the photo of what I was painting from. I met a new friend at the Market Street show, Kim Carlton, who told me about the paintouts and invited me to join. It was really fun and there are some very good painters that participate. I think I will probably learn some things!

Kim and some of the others work in oils in an ala prima style which is something I would love to learn to do. I just ordered the Richard Schmidt book, 'Ala Prima, Everything I know about painting', which just came out in paperback. The hard back version is 75 dollars and this new version is much more afordable. I love his work and am excited to get the book.
I have worked in oils a lot but have done the old master's technique of transparent glazing that I learned from Patricia Whitty. It is a very beautiful technique and I do like the result but it is very labor intensive and time consuming and I think it would be fun to finish a painting in a sitting so that you could travel and do oil instead of just watercolor.

Loafer
Oh, geez! Today I just didn't get much material stuff done but was busy all day as usual! What is it with that? You want to get so much done and then you spend time on the computer trying to look things up that will help you in some way and the next thing you know, it's 3 in the afternoon! I really dislike that! I love to have things done that I can see. I have some fabulous ideas for some paintings that I can't wait to get down on paper and also some wonderful opportunities for my lampwork bead jewelry and hair orniments that I need to get done and presented. I am very excited about that! Also got a call from a very funny and nice lady (a contact from the art show last weekend) about some portraits of her three children that might be in the works. I love painting children and these would be in oil, which is even more fun! Can't wait. Hope you are having an inspired and artfilled day! Love and Cheers, Tonya
